उत्तर ह्रासमान सीमांत उत्पाद अल्पकालीन सिद्धांत है जो परिवर्तनशील अनुपात के नियम की एक अवस्था है ।
अल्पकाल में उत्पत्ति के सभी साधन परिवर्तनशील नहीं होते। परिवर्तनशील साधन की मात्रा में निरंतर वृद्धि करने पर एक आदर्श सहयोग बिंदु के बाद सीमांत उत्पाद गिरने लगता है यह साधन की विभाज्यता एवं अन्य साधनों का स्थिर सहयोग के कारण होता है ।

स्टीगलर के अनुसार :- "जब कुछ उत्पत्ति साधनों को स्थिर रखकर एक उत्पत्ति साधन की इकाइयों में समान वृद्धि की जाती है तब एक निश्चित बिंदु के बाद उत्पादन की उत्पन्न होने वाली वृद्धि कम हो जाएगी अर्थात सीमांत उत्पादन घट जाएगा।"
