जनसाधारण बाजार का अर्थ यह लगाते हैं कि जहां वस्तुओं के क्रेता विक्रेता भौतिक रूप से एकत्रित होकर वस्तुओं सेवाओं का क्रय विक्रय करते हैं उसे बाजार कहते हैं ।
किन्तु अर्थशास्त्र में बाजार की परिभाषा में क्रेता और विक्रेताओं को भौतिक रूप से एक स्थान पर उपस्थित होना अनिवार्य नहीं है। आधुनिक समय में वस्तुओं सेवाओं का क्रय विक्रय विभिन्न संचार माध्यमों से सौदेबाजी से परस्पर स्वीकार कीमत पर संपन्न हो जाता है।
परिभाषा प्रोफेसर बेन्हम के अनुसार :- "बाजार वह क्षेत्र होता है जिसमें क्रेता और विक्रेता एक दूसरे के इतने निकट संपर्क में होते हैं कि एक भाग में प्रचलित कीमतों का प्रभाव दूसरे भाग में प्रचलित कीमतों पर पढ़ता रहता है।"

But the definition of market in economics does not require buyers and sellers to be physically present at the same place. In modern times, buying and selling of goods and services is done by bargaining through various communication channels at a mutually acceptable price.
